JOB SUMMARY

The Cook prepares and serves sanitary, nutritious, and high-quality food, in accordance with standardized recipes and diet orders, to residents, patients, employees, and members of the public.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Prepares foods while adhering to service times, diet orders, and standardized recipes.
• Appropriately prepares for the next day’s service (thawing frozen foods/chopping vegetables).
• Assists with Dietary Assistance Requests as needed.
• Makes appropriate menu substitutions as needed; follows-up with Dietary Manager before and after substitutions are made.
• Routinely cleans and sanitizes work station, food service equipment, and other kitchen areas.
• Properly tests, records, and calibrates food thermometers.
• Correctly tests food temperature with a food thermometer.
• Cooks food to correct final cooking temperatures; documents final cooking temperatures on production sheets.
• Adheres to hot and cold holding procedures as specified by the Grant County Health District and the kitchen HACCP plan.
• Properly stores foods and beverages after service times.
• Stocks, maintains, tests, and records test findings of a sanitary bucket at the start of each shift.
• Contributes to menu development as needed.

• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and complete work with a minimum of supervision.
• Must have ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with facility staff, residents, family members, volunteers and the general public. High school graduate or equivalent.
• State certified activities training program (can be obtained within one year of employment after hire).
• Two to four years previous experience in a long-term care facility preferred.
• Sense of responsibility, moral integrity, and common sense. Sincere desire to work with the aged population.
• Have a current driver’s license, CPR card, and Food Handlers card.
• Must be able to speak effectively before groups of residents, staff and work with volunteers.
• Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft office)
• Speak, read, write, follow oral/written instructions in English.
